Minister of Transport launched SAL on December 16th

Sindi: SAL will enhance ground handling services and land-sea cargo operations and link them to Saudi airports

On December 16th the Minister of Transport Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser launched Saudi Arabian Logistics (SAL) Co. to be the new logistics entity and the key cargo gate linking all Kingdom’s airports. The event took  place at Burj Rafal Hotel Tower Riyadh with the presence of government authorities and top officials.

“SAL will come into operation at the beginning of January 2020 as one of the most powerful logistics and ground handling service provider and will contribute to achieving Vision 2030 aiming to transform the Kingdom into an international logistics platform and invest in the state’s strategic location at the crossroads of important international trade routes between three continents: Asia, Europe and Africa,” Sindi said.

The Saudi Arabian Logistics aims to strike a balance between air-cargo operations and ground handling services through integrated land and sea transport operations. The company will act as a link between cargo operations and the Kingdom’s airports in order to enhance logistics services and ensure smooth flow of goods, and most importantly make the cargo operations more reliable, explained Sindi.

SAL will reflect and implement the efforts towards restructuring the policies of the logistics sector, supply and import chains, and market liberalization in conjunction with the private sector, he added.

Achieving the objectives of the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program is on SAL’s top priority list, especially in the light of the major economic transformation the Kingdom has been seeing. Sindi said such transformation should contribute directly to enhancing and advancing the infrastructure including all types of cargo platforms, warehouses and equipment as well as the cargo facilities of international e-commerce goods.

“We are standing at the threshold of a new promising era of logistics services. SAL boasts tremendous capabilities that make it support and provide supply services for different cargo transportation means. This should make us catapult to the forefront of countries leading the logistics field. SAL will definitely play a pioneering and catalytic role in serving the Kingdom’s national development objectives and creating more economic opportunities towards enhancing the country’s global presence and standing,” he said.

Saudia owns 55% of SAL shares while Tarabot Air Cargo Services Company Limited owns 30%, Saudi Airlines Air Transport Company 5%, Saudi Airlines Real Estate Development Company 5%, and Saudi Airlines Company 5%.

SAL acts as the key cargo gate for the Kingdom’s airports and logistically links all transportation means to air entry points in terms of ground handling services for different airlines companies, e-commerce activities, land transportation, warehouse management, storage solutions and others. It is the major logistics platform and catalyst which will contribute to accomplishing Vision 2030 objectives.
